At Rhodes College, we believe all individuals have a right to fully pursue campus life without concern for their safety and well-being. We are committed to working campus-wide to educate and address concerns, but we need your help.
There are three things we ask of you:
- Report hazing when you hear of it
- Email stophazing@rhodes.edu to request a training or workshop
- Talk about building healthy relationships throughout campus without endangering each other’s health or well-being.
What is hazing?
Hazing is any activity expected of someone joining or participating in a group that humiliates, degrades, abuses, or endangers them, regardless of a person’s willingness to participate.
Three components define hazing:
- It occurs in a group context
- Humiliating, degrading, or endangering behavior
- Happens regardless of an individual’s willingness to participateHazing is any activity expected of someone joining or participating in a group that humiliates, degrades, abuses, or endangers them, regardless of a person’s willingness to participate.

As this definition shows, hazing happens regardless of whether an individual consents. Because of the power dynamics involved in hazing, a person cannot consent to hazing occurring.
