What is a Resident Assistant?
A Resident Assistant is a student leader, mentor, resource, and role model who lives in the residence halls and supports the campus residential community. RAs help create a welcoming and inclusive environment by:
- Building relationships with residents
- Organizing social and educational programs
- Connecting students to campus resources
- Addressing community concerns
- Upholding college policies to maintain a safe living environment
RAs play a key role in shaping the residential experience and fostering a sense of belonging among students.
What Does Being an RA Include?
The RA role is dynamic and multifaceted. Responsibilities include:
Community Building
- Planning and hosting hall programs and events
- Creating inclusive and welcoming spaces
- Encouraging student involvement on campus
Resident Support
- Serving as a resource for academic, social, and personal concerns
- Referring students to campus services when needed
Policy Enforcement
- Promoting community standards
- Addressing misconduct and policy violations
Crisis & Emergency Response
- Supporting students during emergencies
- Responding to safety concerns and escalating issues when necessary
Administrative Responsibilities
- Completing incident reports
Assisting with hall operations - Communicating with Residence Life staff
On-Call Duty
- Rotating on-call shifts to support residents and ensure hall safety
Training & Meetings
- Attending required training before each semester
- Participating in regular staff meetings
What Does It Take to Be an RA?
RAs are selected through a competitive application process. Successful candidates demonstrate:

RAs must be able to balance academic responsibilities while fulfilling their leadership role. Comprehensive training is provided to support skill development in:

RAs must remain in good social and academic standing and follow the Rhodes College Code of Conduct.

- February 23-24, 2026: RA Decisions go out along with offer letter timelines
- February 27, 2026: Offer letter responses are due – 12 p.m.
