Discover the Humanity Behind Healthcare

Healthcare is about more than science and clinical practice. At Rhodes, our interdisciplinary certificate programs in Bioethics and Health Humanities and Health and Society invite you to explore the ethical, cultural, historical, and social forces that shape health and healthcare.

Through thoughtful coursework, discussion, and experiential experiences, you will examine questions of ethics, equity, identity, policy, communication, and the social determinants of health. You will develop the critical thinking, empathy, and perspective to engage thoughtfully with patients, communities, and complex challenges in healthcare.

A Community Built for Discovery

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Health and Society explores the social, cultural, and political forces that shape health and healthcare. Through a collaborative, one-year cohort experience, students examine health equity, communication, policy, and social determinants of health while learning to better understand and serve diverse and underserved communities.

Your coursework addresses real-world issues through topics such as intercultural communication, healthcare policy, global health, narrative medicine, and research methods. You will develop the ability to recognize bias, understand the roots of health disparities, and advocate for more equitable, person-centered care.

More than a traditional academic program, the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Health and Society is grounded in equity, collaboration, and asset-based perspectives. You’ll learn alongside a supportive cohort including licensed medical professionals, while gaining practical tools and perspectives to make a meaningful impact in healthcare, public health, and policy.

Where Healthcare Meets Humanity

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Bioethics and Health Humanities is a 20-credit, interdisciplinary program designed to help you understand healthcare beyond the science. Over one academic year, you’ll explore how culture, history, ethics, and the humanities shape our understanding of health, illness, healing, and patient care. Engage with real-world questions through courses, discussions, and a hands-on practicum, examining complex issues from local and global perspectives across the arts and humanities.

Designed primarily for students pursuing a gap or growth year after earning a bachelor’s degree, the program is also ideal for healthcare professionals looking to reconnect with the values, purpose, and human connection that inspired them to enter the field.
