50th Reunion

Class of 1976

Class of 1976

Our schedule for the Weekend

Thursday, November 12:
At 3:00 p.m. in Hardie Auditorium, enjoy a special lecture by Associate Professor of History Robert Saxe based on his new book Daily Life for Americans during World War II. A reception and book signing to follow.

Friday, November 13:
Between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., stop by the Alumni Relations Office in King Hall, the former Pi Kappa Alpha National Headquarters, to check in for the weekend. If you come early, you will have the opportunity to sign up to attend a class.

For you golfers, join us at the Links of Overton for 9 holes of golf starting at 10:00 a.m. More details to follow.

At 4:00 p.m., the Department of Music is hosting a music showcase featuring the Rhodes Singers, Rhodes Orchestra, and Rhodes Jazz Band.

The All-Alumni reception takes place in the McCallum Ballroom in the Bryan Campus Life Center from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to meet up with classmates before heading to our class party at Marshall Arts, the art gallery and studio owned by Pinkney Herbert ’77.

From 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. we will enjoy light hors-d’oeuvres, beer, wine, soft drinks, live music, and an exhibit of artwork created by our classmates and friends from surrounding classes. Marshall Arts is located 900 feet from Sun Studio. If you have art you would like to display, please contact Arden Ritter McElroy at ardenmc@comcast.net.

After the reception, our hope is you will gather with your friends for dinner at a nearby restaurant. (A list will be provided prior to the weekend.)

Saturday, November 14:
President Jennifer Collins and Adam Charnes will welcome the Class of 1976 to their home for the Golden Lynx Brunch at 8:30 a.m., an annual event honoring alumni who have celebrated their 50th year since graduation and beyond.

Immediately following the brunch, we will head back to campus for Alumni Convocation, the annual meeting of the Rhodes International Alumni Association and presentation of annual alumni awards. Members of the Class of 1976 will process in as a group behind our class banner. The meeting gavels to order at 10:00 a.m.

The delicious Taste of Memphis Alumni Picnic takes place from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. Enjoy Memphis BBQ and fried chicken before joining the Rhodes community members at Crain Field for the Homecoming football game against Trinity University. Kick off is at 2:00 p.m.

Our 50th Reunion cocktail reception and dinner will begin shortly after the end of the football game at approximately 5:30 p.m. in McCallum Ballroom, Bryan Campus Life Center, adjacent to the football stadium. Our plan is to open the event to friends from surrounding classes at 7:30 p.m. and to start the live music and dancing at 8:00 p.m. Our musical headliner for the evening will be the fabled R&B band, Hi Rythm Section.

Sunday, November 15:
We will end our memorable weekend and linger together over breakfast in the Tiger & Peacock rooftop lounge overlooking Overton Square at The Memphian Hotel, our host hotel for the weekend. The charge for breakfast is $20 per person; Tom Gattas is generously underwriting the event.

Rooms are still available for November 12, 13 and 14 at our special reunion rate. Call The Memphian’s Brian Dodson at (901) 538-7302.
