Mathematics in Music: Drawing Inspiration from Different Disciplines

Liberal arts students will be asked to consider their classes through multiple prisms. Whether it is a business class that reacts to market trends via breaking news, a writing class for scientific papers, or, in this case, a musical concert centered around mathematical principles, students should be able to relate their specific areas of study to even seemingly unrelated fields. Music and math are fundamentally related fields, so Dr. Evan Williams, assistant professor of music, asked his students to learn pieces based on that foundational tenet.
