Mia-Miracle Craig, Sam Frank, Claire Kiernan, and Vaniel Simmons are competing for the 2023 Truman Scholarship, a national competitive, merit-based award offered to students who wish to attend graduate school in preparation for a career in government, the non-profit sector, or public service. It provides up to $30,000 to be applied toward graduate school.

Three Rhodes students accompanied Dr. Kenny Morrell to Caesarea, Israel, for the archaeological opportunity of a lifetime: the Caesarea City and Port Exploration Maymester.

A $2 million gift from the estate of Dr. Frances Elaine Donelson ’59 will endow a new chair and fellowship program in the Department of Psychology at Rhodes College.

Nicole J. Johnson, dean of students and associate vice president for student affairs at Goucher College, has been named vice president for student life at Rhodes College. She will assume the role on Feb. 27, 2023.

Four Rhodes College seniors are competing for the prestigious Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, which provides a $40,000 grant for purposeful, independent exploration abroad. They are Isabel López, Benjamin Oelkers, Anna Parkinson, and Van Tran.

This past summer, Brittany Ashley ’23, Avery Comish ’24, Elizabeth Griffin ’23, and Isabella Brewer ’24, led by associate professor of art and art history Dr. Miriam Clinton, travelled to Porto Rafti to become part of the archaeological survey project known as BEARS.

Rhodes senior Anne Entz, who is the recipient of the prestigious Boren Scholarship, has been studying Mandarin Chinese at the National Taiwan University for the fall 2022 semester. “I chose to study Mandarin in Taiwan because I have had a wonderful experience studying Chinese at Rhodes, and I wanted to continue improving my Chinese language skills in an immersive environment,” she says.
