Dr. Sarah Rollens, associate professor of religious studies at Rhodes College, recently published an inaugural editorial, along with Dr. Robert Myles of Wollaston Theological College, in the Journal for the Study of the Historical Jesus. She and Myles became co-executive editors of the journal in March 2023, and this is the first issue since they began their tenure.

According to Rollens, they want to steer the conversation toward teaching about the historical Jesus and feature innovative approaches to this topic in the classroom at various kinds of institutions—liberal arts colleges, large public universities, community colleges, etc. In addition, they highlight the importance of including scholarship from academics from diverse backgrounds.

“We operate on a global stage with scholars from various backgrounds and identities who stand ready to contribute their quality scholarship to the collective production of knowledge,” said Rollens. “There has been a concerted effort to break the ‘inertia of inequality’ in various corners of biblical studies, and we intend to continue with that work in the Journal for the Study of the Historical Jesus.”
