Parth Sinojia ’25 won the undergraduate category and Jake Ackerman ’24 was runner-up at the Memphis Area Collegiate Geospatial Showcase recently presented at The University of Memphis. Dr. Kate Shields, assistant professor of environmental studies and sciences, accompanied the students and was part of a career panel at the event.
The showcase offered an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to demonstrate their geographic information systems (GIS) proficiency to an audience of GIS professionals spanning the public, private, and governmental business sectors.
Sinojia, who is a neuroscience major, presented “Equitable Access Mapping: Bridging Resource Gaps in Memphis Through GIS Analysis,” and Ackerman, who is an environmental sciences major, presented “Finding Breaches: Gaps in Data and the Memphis Aquifer.”
