Rhodes biology and biochemistry and molecular biology (BMB) students in Dr. Jonathan Fitz Gerald’s research lab and Animal Development course recently taught about nutrition and plant science to second graders at Idlewild Elementary. The students made miniature greenhouses from recycled water bottles and conducted an experiment to demonstrate what happens when seedlings are deprived sunlight

Fitz Gerald and Dr. Zachary Casey of educational studies are co-principal investigators on a National Science Foundation (NSF) Noyce Program grant that funds community outreach and can provide scholarships to students interested in pursuing education careers.  Rhodes students interested in future visits to elementary schools are encouraged to contact them.
