Concert To Be Held In Memory of Rhodes Alumna Jane McAtee Patterson

Memphis’ Luna Nova Ensemble will present a concert Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in memory of Rhodes alumna Jane McAtee Patterson ’51. Free and open to the public, the event will be held in Rhodes’ Hardie Auditorium located on the second floor of Palmer Hall. The program will be made up largely of contemporary works inspired by literature and music of Japan.

Patterson, who died April 10, 2012, received a B.A. from Rhodes where she was a charter member of the school’s Phi Beta Kappa chapter. She was the wife of Robert Glasgow Patterson, Sr., long-time faculty member of Rhodes’ Department of Religious Studies, who passed away in 2011.

The program includes “Eight Meditations on Poems by Izumi Shikibu” for strings, winds, percussion, and two narrators by their son, Robert G. Patterson, Jr. Also presented will be works by Toru Takemitsu, Mark Volker, and Nolen Stolz.

A reception will follow the concert.
