Geoff Bakewell is both Professor of Greek and Roman Studies and the holder of the Irene B. and J. Walter McDonnell Chair in Greek and Roman Studies. He spent 2017-18 in Greece as Elizabeth A. Whitehead Professor at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. He holds a Ph.D. in classical philology from Brown University, and has published widely on Greek drama, the Athenian democracy, Plato, and classical reception. His most recent book is Aeschylus’ Suppliant Women: The Tragedy of Immigration (University of Wisconsin Press, 2013).
