Welcome to the Department of Anthropology and Sociology web site. Our department combines the two disciplines of Anthropology and Sociology, offering students an opportunity to learn how to interpret and explain the structural and environmental forces that influence human action and that have resulted in myriad cultural forms.
By studying the theory and method of the two academic fields, majors are able to understand the society in which they live and their actions as social and cultural beings. They also come to appreciate alternative cultural ways of being in the world.
With an average of nine majors per graduating class, students have ample opportunities for close interaction with faculty members. They are prepared for careers in a variety of areas, including domestic and international non-profit agencies, social services, health services, human resources, education, international relations, as well as research in academic, governmental and corporate settings.
This course and accompanying lab focus on a scientific understanding of the biological and geological methods and theories that are relevant to human/environmental interaction in pre-historic and historic sites of human occupation.
