Jennifer M. Collins will be formally installed as the 21st president of Rhodes College on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023. Inaugural weekend events include a campus-wide celebratory lunch on Friday featuring Memphis-inspired dishes, and the Inaugural Talks, which will showcase the richness and variety of faculty scholarship at Rhodes.

History major Sam Frank ’24 serves as the 2023-2024 president of the Honor Council, which interprets and implements the Honor Code. Bringing empathy to his role, Frank says, "Any organization tasked with seeking justice needs to prioritize compassion and education if the goal is to improve the community it serves."

Rhodes College’s Mike Curb Institute for Music has been named to Billboard’s list of the 2023 Top Music Business Schools. This is the third time the college has made the roster since 2020; Billboard did not release a list in 2021.

Tram Truong ’24 began her global college search knowing she wanted the freedom to explore multiple subjects. At Rhodes, she combined two disciplines into a major of her own design, biochemistry and molecular biology (BMB) and business, creating her own career path.

Dr. Stephen Haynes, professor of religious studies at Rhodes, is among the five winners of the 11th annual Innovation Awards presented by Memphis Magazine. The awards recognize the best and brightest who are keeping Memphis on the cutting edge.

Dr. John Bass, associate professor of music and director of the Mike Curb Institute for Music at Rhodes, has been invited to be a performer and clinician at the Festival Internacional de Guitarra to be held in Cartagena, Colombia Oct. 11-15.

Dr. Shana Stoddard, associate professor of chemistry at Rhodes, was presented the Tyrone Mitchell Mentor-on-the-Map Award at the 50th annual meeting of the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers held Sept. 11-14 in New Orleans. This is Stoddard’s fifth award from a national organization since joining Rhodes in 2017.

Dr. Charles McKinney, chair of Africana studies and associate professor of history at Rhodes, has contributed a wealth of information to The Balcony Project, which is a new educational exhibition organized by the Orpheum Theatre Group, in partnership with the National Civil Rights Museum.

Rhodes College’s 2023 alumni awards will be presented during the college’s Homecoming/Reunion Weekend Sept. 29-30. William J. Michaelcheck ’69 will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award and Dr. Wilfreda Lindsey ‘11 is the recipient of this year’s BSA Distinguished Alumni Award.

Rhodes alumna Patricia Spears Jones ’73 has been named New York State Poet by the New York State Writers Institute. The award-winning and critically acclaimed poet will serve for two years in the honorary position and receive a $10,000 honorarium.
