Prof. Hughes’ Country Soul Honored by Association for Recorded Sound Collections

Dr. Charles L. Hughes, director of Rhodes’ Memphis Center, has been awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Association for Recorded Sound Collections for his book Country Soul: Making Music and Making Race in the American South. Hughes’ book was honored for Excellence in Historical Recorded Sound Research in Blues, Gospel, Soul, or R&B. This award joins other honors for Country Soul, which also was named a Best Music Book of 2016 by Rolling Stone. Hughes teaches classes in history, music and urban studies at Rhodes.
