An active and enriching spiritual life is vital to many Rhodes students. There are plenty of opportunities for students of all faiths, communities, and practices to to grow in this area.
Hillel of Rhodes College is a new organization on the Rhodes College campus, but Jewish life is not new to Rhodes. The Jewish Student Organization (JSO), had been a part of the Rhodes community since the 1990s. In 2017, JSO joined the University of Memphis Hillel to create Hillels of Memphis. Being a part of Hillel International provides the Rhodes Hillel with many resources we didn't have before, including a director. Our current director is Rabbi Jeremy Simons, who works full time with Hillels of Memphis. You can reach Rabbi Jeremy at firstname.lastname@example.org. Hillel of Rhodes College is committed to providing a space on campus for Jewish students, faculty, and their peers to experience Jewish life, develop connections with other Jews on campus and in the community, and have a resource to continue their Jewish education. For more information, contact Merit Pinker at email@example.com.
The Muslim Students Association at Rhodes consists of students from various backgrounds who come together for their love of faith, service, and community. Throughout the year, the MSA holds events not only to spread awareness to the broader Rhodes community about Islam, but also to connect with students in the Rhodes community through fun social events. For example, this past year, we held a panel where female students from our MSA talked about Muslim women that inspired them. We also held an event where students got to bond over some Gibson's Donuts! For more information, contact Hibah Virk at firstname.lastname@example.org, and Saneela Tameez at email@example.com.
Tuesday Fellowship is an interdenominational ministry where students from all walks of life can find meaningful community. As an organization we seek to contribute in serving the greater Memphis area, develop students in leadership skills, and help people grow in their own personal spirituality. We meet on Tuesday nights at 8:00 pm in Hyde Hall, and would love for you to join us! For more information, contact Savannah Patton at firstname.lastname@example.org.
RUF is a Christian ministry at Rhodes College. All Rhodes students are welcome regardless of personal or religious background. We welcome the "convinced" and the "unconvinced" and invite all students, no matter who they are, to RUF. We want RUF to be a place where a student can come with questions, find fellowship with others, worship God, serve others, and grow in their knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ and His work on their behalf. We meet for Large Group Worship at 8:30 pm on Wednesdays in the East Village Lodge. For more information, contact Emily Perry at email@example.com.
UKirk is a nation-wide campus ministry affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA), but is not exclusively Presbyterian. We are an open and affirming ministry that welcomes all. We value questions, and encourage authentic conversation. We are a community that seeks to follow Christ, and share Christ's love. We gather for worship, discussion, and dinner weekly, take part in a spiritual retreat in the fall, and attend the Montreat College Conference in January. We also participate in service activities throughout the year, working alongside the wider Memphis community. UKirk Memphis includes Rhodes College and the University of Memphis. Elizabeth Doolin is the Campus Minister for UKirk and can be reached at Ukirkmemphis@gmail.com. We meet on Thursdays at 6:00 pm at the UKirk House on the University of Memphis campus - 449 Patterson St, Memphis, TN, 38111. For more information, or if you need help getting a ride to UKirk, contact Ryal Mitchell at firstname.lastname@example.org.
