Rhodes traditionally holds a formal academic program called Baccalaureate on the Friday before Commencement. Members of the graduating class are prominently featured on the program, with readings from the scriptures of many cultures and religions. In lieu of a speaker at Commencement, Rhodes invites a distinguished guest to deliver the Baccalaureate address. Seniors will wear caps and gowns and will sit together as a class. See TICKETS FOR BACCALAUREATE AND COMMENCEMENT. The ceremony will be streamed from the Rhodes home page starting at 3:30 pm.
Saturday, May 10, 9:30 am, Fisher Garden
The 2014 Commencement marks the conclusion of the 165th session of the college. Seating tickets are required for admission to Fisher Garden. See TICKETS FOR BACCALAUREATE AND COMMENCEMENT. (Rain location: see Rain Plan) The ceremony will be streamed from the Rhodes home page starting at 9:15 am.
2014 Commencement Schedule
Wednesday & Thursday, February 5-6:
11 am - 2:00 pm: Reserve caps, gowns and graduation announcements, Burrow Refectory
Wednesday, May 7:
1:00 pm - 5:30 pm: Regalia pick-up in Hardie Auditorium (Palmer Hall).
Thursday, May 8:
11:00 am - noon: Seniors unable to come Wednesday should schedule a time to pick up regalia. Call 901-843-3888.
Friday, May 9:
9:30 am: Senior Class Picture
Assemble with caps and gowns in the Frazier Jelke Amphitheatre (in case of rain, Mallory Gym).
10:00 am: Commencement Rehearsal
Commencement Rehearsal with Faculty Marshals and “Senior Toast” (official welcome to Alumni Association). All seniors must be present, Hubert F. Fisher Memorial Garden (Bryan Campus Life Center in case of inclement weather).
3:10 pm: Line Up for Baccalaureate
Graduates assemble with caps and gowns for the Baccalaureate Service. Line up on the first floor corridor of the Bryan Campus Life Center.
3:30 pm: The Baccalaureate Service, Multi-Sports Forum, Bryan Campus Life Center
Seniors will wear caps and gowns. Seating tickets are required for family and friends to sit in the Multi-Sports Forum. Other guests may watch the ceremony from the McCallum Ballroom and the Lynx Lair, both of which are located in the Bryan Campus Life Center. The ceremony will also be streamed from the Rhodes home page.
Saturday, May 10:
8:45 am: Line Up
Graduates assemble in Frazier Jelke Science Center. (See rain plan in case of inclement weather.)
9:30 am until approximately noon: Commencement in Hubert F. Fisher Memorial Garden. (See rain plan in case of inclement weather)
Immediately following Commencement: Commencement Celebration Reception
Graduates and their guests are invited to a reception with President and Mrs. Troutt and the Rhodes Faculty in the Rollow Avenue of Oaks. In case of inclement weather, refer to the graduation program as to the location of rain sites.
Immediately following Commencement Reception: Regalia Return
Graduates must return caps, gowns and hoods to Hardie Auditorium.
NOTE: At both Baccalaureate and Commencement, signers will interpret the services for the hearing impaired. There is handicapped-accessible seating.
