Student Recital Information: Any applied music student planning to perform a recital must pass a recital hearing at least (4) weeks before the recital date. This is required whether or not that student is a music major or minor. The hearing panel will consist of the area coordinator and the studio instructor, and other faculty as appropriate.

Student Recital Deadlines: By the end of the first full week of classes (Sep. 4 for fall; Jan. 22 for spring) the student and applied instructor should schedule both the hearing and recital dates with the Musical Arts Coordinator. The Student Recital Request form may be obtained in the music office or downloaded here.

Recital Hearing: At the hearing, the student is required to provide printed concert programs and copies of any program notes for every person on the panel. The hearing should not last more than an hour. The piano accompanist and any other musicians participating in the recital must perform on the hearing. If the hearing is unsuccessful, the student will have another opportunity to perform the hearing two weeks later.

Other Student Recital Information:

  • Students must arrange for their own accompanists, at their own expense.
  • The department provides printed recital programs at no charge. Students must submit program information to the administrative assistant no later than three weeks before the recital date.
  • Students must provide stage set-up, seating arrangements, and other requests to the administrative assistant at least two weeks prior to the event.
