Rhodes chemistry sophomore Audrey Woody took home an outstanding undergraduate poster award from the Computers in Chemistry division at the 255th American Chemical Society National Conference. The conference, held March 18-22 in New Orleans, was attended by more than 10,000 chemists from around the world.  Woody works in the lab of Prof. Mauricio Cafiero developing novel inhibitors of enzymes with the goal of improving treatment for Parkinson’s Disease. Woody has presented her work at two other conferences this year and has secured a summer research position at the University of Arkansas Medical School this summer. These competitive summer positions are rarely awarded to sophomores.

In addition, senior chemistry major Deya Pajarillo had her poster chosen for the conference’s Sci-Mix session—a well-attended, select poster session combining research highlights from all 30 divisions in the American Chemical Society. Professors Mauricio Cafiero, Will Eckenhoff, Dhammi Muesse, Kim Brien and Roberto de la Salud Bea also attended the conference with their research students.

Other students who presented their work at this conference include:

Emily Harrison (chemistry, 2018), Samantha Jelinek (neuroscience, 2018), Grace Kennedy (history, 2018), Alison Chang (chemistry, 2018), John Dewar (chemistry, 2018), Barry Rich (chemistry, 2018), Andy Nguyen (chemistry, 2018), Christine Chuang (chemistry, 2018), Jessie Ustick (chemistry, 2018), Sky Cochrane (chemistry, 2018), Emma Goldman (neuroscience, 2018), Becca Evans (chemistry, 2019), Beca Roldan (chemistry, 2019), Madison Perchik (chemistry, 2019), Caroline Magee (chemistry, 2019), Carter Embry (chemistry, 2019), Rachel Giampapa (biochemistry and molecular biology, 2019), Phillips Hutchinson (chemistry, 2019), Megan Kiker (chemistry, 2019), Zara Parkinson (chemistry, 2019), Sakura Horiuchi (chemistry, 2019), Warren Sams (chemistry, 2019), Emily Sanders (chemistry, 2020) and Kayla Puzdrakiewicz (chemistry, 2021).

Prof. Cafiero also served as a judge in the Computers in Chemistry division poster session.
