The pioneering Afrofuturist jazz ensemble will perform live on the Rhodes College campus, also featuring the Rhodes Jazz Band. Continuing the legacy of Sun Ra, the Arkestra is under the direction of original member Marshall Allen, who recently celebrated his 94th birthday. Earlier that week, on Tuesday 10/23 at 6:00 in Blount Auditorium, the Turley Memphis Center will host a panel in conjunction with the concert titled “Memphis Afro-Futurism and Speculative Fiction.”
