Dr. Wonneken Wanske joined the MLL faculty in 2015. In her current research, Dr. Wanske analyzes and contextualizes representations of birthing, birthing assistants, and the medicalization of the female body in late-nineteenth century German literature by women writers. Her interdisciplinary teaching and research interests lie in the fields of German studies, women, gender and sexuality studies, science and technology studies, as well as in the medical humanities.
In her new capacity as director of the Language Learning Center, Dr. Wanske is excited to focus on increasing student enrollment and engagement in language programs, redesigning the LLC as a student-centered space, and attracting the campus community to the LLC through extracurricular events and outreach initiatives. In addition to directing the LLC, she enjoys expanding her students' knowledge of German through physical activity by teaching yoga in German.
