I previously taught Evolution at the University of Colorado-Denver, and was a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Colorado-Boulder and at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
My research is focused on investigating how genome duplication—polyploidy—in flowering plants influences adaptation and speciation in creosote bush (Larrea tridentata), an ecologically important desert shrub of the southwestern US and northern Mexico, as well as other plant species. I combine field work, greenhouse experiments, molecular studies, and computational models to investigate the timing of flowering and patterns of gene flow, plant-pollinator interactions in native habitats, plant community structure and ecological niche specialization, and physiological adaptations.
