Yearly Programs

Aug. New Student First Meeting.  Welcome and Introduction to HPA.  This is a mandatory meeting and allows students to sign up for HPA emails and services.

Sept.   Volunteer Program Introductions (i.e. Kinney).  Service program introductions and relevant society first meetings (i.e. HPA, SACK fair, GlobeMED, HPS).  These various meetings introduce various healthcare experiences and community service opportunities along with organizations that are concerned with healthcare and or service. 

Sept.   Health Fair at the Grad. Expo.  Representatives from various heath profession schools are available for drop in Q & A.  Lots of free swag.  In past years, offshore medical schools, osteopathic medicine, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physicians assistant, public health, chiropractic and many others have been present.  Test preparation and military service scholarship representatives are also present.  Tables are set up in BCLC to allow a wandering walk by many programs. 

Oct. Univ. Tenn. Health Science Center Panel.  Directors of Admissions and Deans representing Medical, Dental, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Nursing and Allied Health.  Appropriate for all HPA students and not just those interested in Tennessee.

Oct.  Junior meeting for Premeds.  For anyone interested in applying in the upcoming cycle.

Oct.   Jr. Meeting for Students Seeking Non-MD Health Professions.  For anyone interested in applying to DDS, PT, NP, PA, Opt, Vet, OT Pharm, etc. in the upcoming cycle.

Oct.   FY and Soph. “Are You On Track?”  Pre-registration meeting and start of year meeting for Sophomores. 

Oct.   Homecoming HPA Event.  Alumni/ae health practitioners and current HPA students.  Students are able to ask lots of questions of practitioners and to hear practical advice and stories from past students.  Great for networking as well.

Nov.  First Year Health Professional School Student Panel.  First year medical, dental, pharmacy, nursing, etc. students present what their life is  like now and give advice.

Feb.   Practice mini GRE, MCAT, PCAT, DAT. 

Mar.  “How to Prepare and Apply to Medical School and Introduction to UAMS”.  Univ. Arkansas Medical School. Director of Admissions.  Appropriate for all premeds not just those interested in UMAS.

Apr.   Senior Panel. Seniors who have just completed successful applications to health profession schools pass on advice.

Apr.   End of First Year Meeting. End of year advice and discussion of summer plans and sophomore year

Apr.   End of Sophomore Year Meeting.  End of year advice and discussion of summer plans and the coming application year.

Some programming at Rhodes, Christian Brothers University, and the University of Memphis is open to all of our HPA students, i.e., health fairs offered multiple times per year.
