Publication Date: 3/13/2009
Rhodes students Maria Cartagena ’11, Ciara Conway ’10, Ai Doan ’11, and Jing "Teresa" Zhou ’12 have won trips to attend the fourth annual One Voice: Reproductive Health and Population Summit in Washington, D.C. March 27-30. Advocates for Youth will pay for their accommodations and meals.
To attend the summit, the students wrote 500 word essays “about the potential roles youth can play in advocating for a more just and sustainable world, where all people have access to sexual and reproductive health services and a healthy environment.”
Conway encouraged her classmates to apply after Professor Carolyn Jaslow informed her of the contest.
During the summit, the students will work as catalysts for change as they develop yearlong action plans that aim to raise awareness about reproductive health on Rhodes’ campus and in the Memphis community.
Conway will deliver a presentation for fellow summit participants as part of her role as a Sierra Club Global Population and Environment Fellow.
