Each August, ribbon is tied around the Cloister columns of first floor Palmer Hall so that first-year students won’t walk on the college seal embedded in the floor. Legend has it that if students walk across the seal, they are fated not to graduate.

However on the day of commencement, if the ceremony is held on campus, graduates get to march across the seal and out into Fisher Garden.

For some, it means the graduation ceremony is imminent. For others, it is a walk to remember.
