Rhodes War Historian Demystifies “Greatest Generation”
Publication Date: 2/18/2008
Dr. Robert Saxe, assistant professor of history at Rhodes, was recently quoted in a Chicago Tribune article about the demise of the American Veterans Committee, a liberal—and some would say radical—group of World War II veterans
Saxe, a specialist in Twentieth Century American history and culture with a special interest in politics and war, is the author of Settling Down: World War II Veterans′ Challenge to the Postwar Consensus (Palgrave: December, 2007). His scholarship questions much of the “Good War,” “Greatest Generation” mythology that has surrounded veterans of World War II and portrays them in much more human terms.
