Dr. Evelyn Perry, associate professor of sociology, is winner of the 2017 Jane Jacobs Urban Communication Foundation Award for her book, Live and Let Live: Diversity, Conflict and Community in an Integrated Neighborhood (University of North Carolina Press, 2017). The award recognizes excellence in addressing issues of urban communication.
The letter notifying Perry of the award cited the following: “The jury was unanimous in its decision and applauded the work as a rich, detailed, and engagingly written ethnography of how residents of an integrated neighborhood in Milwaukee negotiate conflicts and differences related to class, race, sexuality, lifestyle, and politics.”
Perry will receive a cash prize and be recognized at the National Communication Association meeting in November 2018. At Rhodes, she teaches a variety of courses that focus on urban and community sociology, culture and inequality, social problems and research methods.
