Dr. Michael Drompp, professor of history at Rhodes, was presented the 2018 Jameson M. Jones Award for Outstanding Faculty Service at the college’s Opening Convocation Aug. 17. The program marked the start of the college’s 170th session.
Hundreds of students from around the U.S. and across the world moved into their dorm rooms in a matter of hours Aug. 17, as Rhodes College began its 170th academic year. The move-in got underway around 8 a.m., with campus security directing the long lines of cars to locations where staff and student volunteers would help unload boxes and other belongings into the residence halls.
He has more than 20 years of experience at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, where he most recently served as director of information technology for the university’s Candler School of Theology.
“You feel like you could be at a castle, rather than a college,” wrote the editors of the luxury and lifestyle travel magazine about Rhodes’ commitment to Collegiate Gothic architecture.
Rhodes College Executive Director of Athletics Portia Hoeg announced today the hiring of Tyler Papadinis as head men’s basketball coach, effective Aug. 15. Papadinis comes to Rhodes after spending the past three seasons on the coaching staff at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Rankings in the guide are based on surveys of 138,000 students from across the country. The Princeton Review does not rank the schools in the book overall.
Rhodes also made the guide’s listings of small colleges and universities strong in international studies and in business.
She comes to Rhodes from Allegheny College in Meadville, Penn., where she served as the director of athletics and recreation for the past six years.
She recently graduated from Rhodes with a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies. In addition to teaching, she plans to study environmental values in Estonian culture and how those values are essential in preserving natural spaces.
Annual awards were presented at the 169th Commencement Exercises of Rhodes College held May 12 on campus.
