Rhodes Selected a Top Workplace

The Commercial Appeal and WorkplaceDynamics, LLP, a leading research firm that measures organizational health and employee engagement, have named Rhodes College a Top 50 Workplace in Memphis for 2014.

In September, WorkPlaceDynamics conducted a survey with Rhodes faculty and staff to gauge overall employee satisfaction. More than 65 percent of Rhodes’ 553 employees participated in the survey, and the responses were benchmarked against similarly sized peer institutions. Rhodes ranked higher than the peer benchmarks in a variety of key categories.

Comments from Rhodes employees included:

  • “My job gives me purpose and satisfaction. My boss is caring, understanding, and encouraging.”
  • “There are times we are vibrant and times we are quiet, but we are always passionate.”
  • “The working environment is flexible, the students are amazing, and the leadership is strong.”

The college was recognized at a ceremony Dec. 3 held at the Hilton Memphis, and The Commercial Appeal is featuring stories about the winners.

“We are so honored to have been selected a 2014 Top Workplace based on our employees’ responses. Our faculty and staff are extraordinary individuals, and their commitment to Rhodes, our students, and their families is unparalleled,” says Rhodes’ Director of Human Resources Claire R. Shapiro.

Other honors the college has received this year include being recognized at the Memphis Business Group on Health for participation in The CEO Culture of Health initiative. This is partially funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and United Health Foundation, supported by the National Business Coalition on Health. Rhodes also was recognized as a Healthier Tennessee Workplace and received GOLD Achievement as an American Heart Association Fit-Friendly Worksite.
