G. Richard Smith, M.D., became the new dean of the College of Medicine and vice chancellor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) on May 1.
Smith was director of the UAMS Psychiatric Research Institute and chair of the Department of Psychiatry in the UAMS College of Medicine.
A Jonesboro native, Smith holds a B.S. in biochemistry from Rhodes.
As dean, he will oversee all aspects of the College of Medicine, which is UAMS’ largest college with 30 departments and free-standing divisions.
