On Oct. 28 at 8 p.m., Lipstick On Your Collar, Rhodes’ women’s a cappella group, will present a concert with the Princeton University a cappella group, The Princeton Footnotes. The all-male a cappella group will be touring the country and plan to stop in Memphis to perform for two nights in a row, one at Rhodes.
The Princeton Footnotes reached out to the Rhodes group in hopes of performing with them after hearing positive reviews from another school in their area. Thinking it would be a great opportunity to meet other a cappella singers from across the country, Tea-Rose Pankey ’15 and Betsy Dee ’15, co-presidents of Lipstick On Your Collar, jumped at the opportunity.
Both Dee and Pankey have been members of Lipstick On Your Collar since their first year at Rhodes and say that the group is “a great way to build strong friendships.” Pankey adds that the ensemble is comprised of an “eclectic group of people which changes every year,” allowing members to meet and build relationships with a wide variety of people. What’s more, the group “allows a lot of creative freedom because it is student led.”
Yet, Dee and Pankey also reflect that the Rhodes a cappella group has much to learn from The Princeton Footnotes. Having just gotten back from a tour of Israel, the Princeton group has much experience touring and performing for diverse audiences. In addition to performing for millions on NBC’s “The Sing Off,” the group has performed for U.S. Presidents, fashion designers, and business professionals as well at corporate events and baseball stadiums. Pankey says that meeting them will be a “good way to receive tips and feedback on how to improve Lipstick.”
The concert will be held in Hardie Auditorium and will be free and open to the public. It will begin with an introduction from Lipstick On Your Collar followed by a performance from The Princeton Footnotes.
