Prof. LaRosa Hits the Road Promoting New Colombia Book

On March 21, Dr. Michael LaRosa, associate professor of history at Rhodes, will deliver a public lecture at Texas State University (San Marcos) on “Historic Realism? García Márquez’s Colombia, 1928-1991.”

An expert on the history of Colombia, LaRosa is coauthor of Colombia: A Concise Contemporary History. In February, a conference by The Miami Consortium for Latin American and Caribbean Studies was loosely organized around the book.

Locally, LaRosa writes guest columns for The Commercial Appeal and Memphis Flyer on immigration issues in the Mid-South and beyond. At Rhodes, his scholarship focuses on the social, political and religious history of Latin America.
