Nov. 20 Is Rhodes Kindness Day

The Office of Leadership Programming will present Rhodes Kindness Day on Nov. 20. “Through those random acts of kindness, we build a stronger community where we are inclusive of others, celebrate our differences, and encourage unity through showing that we care,” says Ira Lawson, student leadership coordinator.

According to Lawson, kindness sometimes is taken for granted, but it actually increases energy as well the following:

  • Decreases stress hormones
  • Lowers the risk of developing Alzheimer’s
  • Produces a heart-protecting hormone for a healthier heart
  • Slows aging by producing oxytocin through emotional warmth

On Nov. 20, the Rhodes community is encouraged to practice random acts of kindness and visit the “It’s cool to be kind!” table at lunch in the Catherine Burrow Refectory.
