MLK Day of Service

By Lauren Albright ′16

On Martin Luther King, Jr. day, the Rhodes Community came together for an annual day of service. The Rhodes Kinney Program Directors, Georgie Loftis ’14, Shawnecca Burke ’14, and Taylor Sieben ’15, organized student registration and coordinated with 12 community partners to provide students with the opportunity to serve on this special holiday. With 150 students registered, everyone commenced on Monday morning for breakfast, discussions, and an opening speech given by the Kinney Program Community Service Coordinator, Shannon Hoffman. We were able to follow some of the service groups around, and found students interacting with community members and coming together to celebrate and serve with one another. Whether they were raking leaves, folding silverware, boarding up houses, or baking cookies, everyone involved played a part in bringing this city together in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
