Physics major Matthew Huber ’18 was awarded the highly competitive Optical Society of America Best Poster Award for his presentation at the recent Quadrennial Physics Congress held in San Francisco, CA. Huber’s award was in the category of Applied Physics and recognizes posters that explore the applications of physics to specific technological or practical uses. Nine Rhodes physics students attended the conference, and other student presenters were juniors Eleanor Hook, Abel Diaz, and Luke Fairbanks.
At another conference held Nov. 28-Dec. 2, Huber received the second place award for best student paper in the underwater acoustics category. The 5th Joint Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America and the Acoustical Society of Japan was held in Honolulu, and he presented two talks—“Multi-Parameter Analysis of Bladder Mechanical Properties Using Ultrasound Bladder Vibrometry” and “Optical Detection of Mach Shock Wave Cones in Water Using Refracto-Vibrometry.”
