Marcie Allen Van Mol, president of MAC Presents in New York, N.Y. and a member of the Rhodes Class of 1996, has been invited by The White House Office of Public Engagement to be recognized as a Champion of Change.
The ceremony will take place at The White House on April 24 and honors people and organizations directly involved in response and recovery efforts following Hurricane Sandy. These hidden heroes implemented innovative, collaborative solutions to meet the unique needs of communities and neighborhoods as they worked to rebuild after the devastating effects of this disaster, according to the invitation. Allen helped to raise over $100,000 with the group “Beach 119th Street Angels.”
In November of 2012, Allen began leading efforts to specifically deliver funds, food, water and other supplies to residents on Beach 119th St. in Rockaway Beach, N.Y. A month later, she directed “Beach119,” a documentary that “follows a tribe of survivors from the Rockaways, in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.”
