Assistant Professor of Art (Sculpture/Installation/Environmental Art)
The Department of Art at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee seeks an artist/teacher for a one-year appointment at the assistant professor level beginning Fall 2008. A search for a tenure-track appointment will take place during the academic year 2008-2009. Course load is 3 classes each semester. Primary responsibilities include teaching sculpture and drawing. Additional expertise and the ability to teach in one or more of the following areas is particularly desirable: digital arts, installation art, environmental art, performance art, and/or new media. Primary specialty must be sculpture. Secondary fields are open, excepting chemical photography, ceramics, and printmaking. The successful candidate must possess a firm commitment to teaching at a small liberal arts college and demonstrate the potential for professional excellence as an artist. Completed MFA and some teaching experience required for hire. Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship in Environmental Archaeology
Rhodes College is pleased to announce the receipt of a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation that will enable the College to support a cross-disciplinary program in Environmental Studies. Therefore, the Rhodes Department of Anthropology and Sociology invites applications for a three-year postdoctoral position in Environmental Archaeology to begin August, 2008. We encourage applications from candidates who have expertise in the Environmental Archaeology of the Southeastern United States and welcome secondary expertise/interest in historical archaeology, palaeo-ethnobotany, palaeo-ethnozoology, and/or palaeoclimates. The teaching load is two courses per semester with at least one course per semester from such areas as environmental archaeology, indigenous populations of the Southeastern U.S. and changing environmental strategies, environment and worldviews of First World Peoples, and ecological anthropology. The Rhodes summer field school at Ames Plantation offers additional research and teaching possibilities. The department seeks candidates with a strong commitment to research and teaching in a liberal arts setting. The position includes annual travel and research support. Visiting Assistant Professor/Instructor in Political Science
The Department of Political Science at Rhodes invites applications for a one year position starting in August 2008. The department is looking for someone who will teach the introductory American politics course as well as upper level courses in American politics and/or courses in political thought.
