Departmental Assistant
International Studies Department

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides clerical and administrative support for the International Studies Department. P rocesses assigned materials including proofreading and editing tasks; maintains departmental websites and calendar of events; assists in production of department's newsletter; performs general receptionist duties; operates and maintains office equipment including personal computers, printers, copiers, fax machines and scanner; establishes and maintains filing and record keeping for the department; monitors office inventory and places supply orders as necessary; trains, schedules, and supervises student workers.

Assists in the recruiting process for the department including advertising, correspondence, scheduling and maintaining files of candidates; Oversees departmental budget, processes invoices and prepares projected budgets in conjunction with the Chair; plans and coordinates Buckman Speakers Series, Great Decisions Class, receptions, book signings, luncheons and other department parties; Assists with administering tests and showing videos in classrooms as necessary; Assists International Studies honorary societies, Sigma Iota Rho, Model United Nations club, and the faculty advisor with the Buckman Internship Program. During the summer months, assists with administrative support in the Office of Academic Affairs.

QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED required; some college or business school preferred. Minimum of one year of secretarial experience required. Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and ability to maintain website required. Excellent communication skills are required. Demonstrated ability to organize numerous projects, consistently meet deadlines, tolerate frequent interruptions, and exercise professional judgment.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time
