The Rhodes Jazz Band led by Dr. John Bass, director of Rhodes’ Mike Curb Institute for Music, will participate in Grahamwood Elementary School’s annual Mardi Gras Parade Feb. 24. The celebration draws in parents and community stakeholders who cheer the students as they march to the sounds of the jazz band. Grahamwood’s art students have created masks for the event.
In addition, the Curb Institute has partnered with Grahamwood music teachers Danyelle Harris and Melissa Elsholz to engage students in a historical study of the music, traditions and the cultural diversity that is Mardi Gras.
