While about half of Rhodes students are part of the Greek system, fraternity and sorority houses are non-residential and used only for meetings and events. Fraternities and sororities represent the North American Interfraternity Conference, National Pan-Hellenic Council and National Panhellenic Conference. Fraternity and sorority members are involved in many other student organizations and leadership roles on campus including the Rhodes Student Government, Rhodes Activities Board, Service Scholars, residence life, athletics, the Honor Council and Social Regulations Council.
Philanthropy is one of the four pillars of fraternity and sorority life. Chapters raise money for their local and national philanthropies in a variety of ways. Over 80% of Rhodes students participate in service and our Greek students are no different. Some of their philanthropies include Arthritis Research, Girl Scouts of the USA, Make-A-Wish, Muscular Dystrophy Association, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The Fraternity and Sorority Community is dedicated to building leaders by providing a wide variety of leadership development experiences. Members are leaders throughout campus and within student organizations such as Student Government, Student Athletic Advisory Board, Activities Board and many more!
The first and foremost priority of Rhodes College students is academic achievement, and helping members achieve this goal is a primary objective of the Fraternity and Sorority Community. The chapters place a heavy emphasis on scholarship, and each have an academic achievement program. Programs include organized study hours, tutoring, educational incentives and major mentors for selecting classes.
Intramural sports allow fraternities and sororities a chance to compete with one another on a one-to-one basis, regardless of one’s athletic ability.
Order of Omega is a leadership honorary organization for fraternity and sorority members that achieve in academics, leadership, service and campus involvement. Applicants will be above the all-student average and involved in their chapter, campus, academic department and fraternity and sorority community. Rho Lambda is a similar honorary organization for sorority women only.
Our 14 chapters offer opportunities to build lifelong friendships and experience in leadership and service.
