Majors often take advantage of internships, which are offered for academic credit to gain practical experience in their particular area of interest. Internships are customized to each individual’s career goals. Students are expected to spend 12 hrs per week on their internship activities over a 14 week semester for a 4-hour internship. On average, 10 majors conduct internships each year in a variety of environments including the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences, LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, Youth Villages, Rape Crisis Center, Planned Parenthood, Memphis City Schools, Mayor’s Action Council, various law firms, and human resource departments of area businesses. Some students complete internships with psychologists working in clinical, business and human services agencies in the city.
