Transfer Credit for Astronomy (Physics 101)

To receive transfer credit for astronomy lecture and lab, you must receive a passing grade in the equivalent courses at an accredited institution. Note that it is not possible to take astronomy lecture or lab alone at Rhodes (they must be taken concurrently). For approval you should fill out a transfer credit request form and contact Dr. David Rupke or the department chairperson prior to enrolling in the course.

Transfer Credit for Fundamentals of Physics (Physics 111-112)

If you wish to receive transfer credit for any course in the Fundamentals of Physics sequence (Physics 111, 111L, 112, 112L), you must receive a passing grade in the equivalent course(s) at an accredited institution. For approval you should fill out a transfer credit request form and contact Dr. Shubho Banerjee or the department chairperson prior to enrolling in the course.

Advanced Placement Credit

Students may receive credit for Physics 111 or 112, the associated labs, and the F7 Foundations requirement as follows:

AP score of 4 on Physics B exam: credit for Physics 111, 111L
AP score of 5 on Physics B exam: credit for Physics 111, 111L and F7

AP score of 4 on Physics C- mechanics exam: credit for Physics 111, 111L
AP score of 5 on Physics C- mechanics exam: credit for Physics 111, 111L and F7

AP score of 4 on Physics C- electricity and magnetism exam: credit for Physics 112, 112L
AP score of 5 on Physics C- electricity and magnetism exam: credit for Physics 112, 112L and F7

IB physics score of 5, 6, or 7: credit for Physics 111, 111L and F7

NOTE: any student with AP/IB credit for physics considering a major in physics should consult with a physics faculty member prior to deciding whether or not to use the AP/IB credit for physics. It is often a great advantage to take the fundamentals of physics courses and at Rhodes.
