Open Rhodes: Parent/Family Schedule


Day 1

11:00am – 1:00pm
Check-In, Information Fair and Optional Lunch
The Refectory
During this time you may move your student′s belongings into the residence hall and visit our information fair. Lunch will be served in the Refectory. The Bookstore and Middle Ground will also be open. Representatives from local banks and select campus offices/departments will be available to answer questions.

1:15pm – 1:45pm
Welcome to the Rhodes Community
Ballroom, Bryan Campus Life Center
Hear from President Troutt, our Dean of Students and a student leader about what the benefits of joining the Rhodes Community.

1:45pm – 2:45pm
Parent Transitions Program
Ballroom, Bryan Campus Life Center
Hear from Rob Dove, the director of the Counseling Center, about transitions that parents and students face during the first year of college.

3:00pm – 3:30pm
Rhodes College Philosophy of Liberal Arts education
Ballroom, Bryan Campus Life Center
A faculty member will discuss the Foundations Curriculum and the Rhodes College philosophy of a liberal arts education.

3:30pm – 4:15pm
Academic Presentations
Various Locations
Hear from faculty representing different areas of study (Fine Arts, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, the Humanities and Commerce & Business, )

Optional Sessions
Intercollegiate Athletics Session

Any student (and their parent/family members) planning to participate in or is considering varsity athletics at Rhodes should attend this session. This includes recruited and walk-on athletes.
Mock Trial Session

Any student (and their parent/family members) planning to participate in or is considering Mock Trial at Rhodes should attend this session.

Mini Sessions and One-on-One Advising
Buckman Hall
Students and parents have the opportunity to attend up to five 20-minute sessions (1, 1:30, 2, 2:30, and 3) to learn more about various campus programs, activities and support resources. During one of these session times, each student will be assigned to meet with a faculty member 1 on 1 to submit their course requests. Parents are asked not to attend the advising session.
