Rhodes’ Office of Leadership Programming Promotes the Power of a “Hello” With New Video

Publication Date: 8/28/2014

Rhodes’ Office of Leadership Programming has created a Rhodes “Hello” video to emphasize the powerful impact the simple greeting can have on individuals as well as encourage connections in the Rhodes community in the coming year.

The campaign was inspired by Oprah Winfrey′s #JustSayHello video. Says Student Leadership Coordinator Ira Lawson, “Saying hello is almost like a validation or acknowledgment for another’s existence, and I truly believe it has the power to change someone’s day for the better.”

A Rhodes study conducted in 2011 and published in the Social Psychology of Education found that one’s social network in college is the most powerful factor in student attrition and retention.

The Office of Leadership Programming provides students the opportunity to engage in leadership programming, develop innovative ideas, and explore what it means to be a leader of today.
