Publication Date: 7/21/2014

April Lassiter ’15 is spending the summer in far north Queensland, Australia as part of the Rainforest Management Studies program presented by the School for Field Studies (SFS).

This is one of the nation′s oldest and largest environmental study abroad programs for college undergraduates. As part of the Rainforest Management Studies program, students compare and contrast the ecological, geographical, social, economic, and historical factors that have shaped natural resource management in far northern Australia and northern New Zealand.

Lassiter, who is an environmental studies major from Little Rock, AR, also has been studying the Maori culture and values, learning about medicinal and culinary uses for native plants as well as the Maori’s spiritual ties to those plants.
