After a long week of classes and papers and commitments (oh my!), there is nothing more satisfying than some eggs, French toast, and a hot cup of coffee on a Saturday morning. Lucky for you, there are plenty of places in Memphis to get the brunch of your dreams and kick off the weekend right.
1. Café Eclectic
Looking for something quick, easy, and close by? Look no further than Café Eclectic. Less than a half-mile from campus, this cozy café offers a wide variety of brunch items, all made with fresh, homemade ingredients. Be sure to get there early: this spot is popular with both students and residents of Midtown.
EAT: Homemade granola with fresh fruit and yogurt; Nutella scone
DRINK: London Fog
2. Blue Plate Café
If a classic, down-home diner is more to your taste, Blue Plate Café is the place for you. Bright yellow walls, blue-checkered tablecloths, and menus printed on newspapers add to the Grandma’s-house-like charm of the eatery. The service is quick, and the food never disappoints (especially if you order unlimited biscuits and gravy).
EAT: Scrambled eggs with cheese and ham; biscuits and gravy
DRINK: Hot chocolate
3. Stone Soup
Tucked away in a corner of Midtown, this pint-sized place is filled with charisma. Every wall features unique works by local artists next to specials boards handwritten in chalk, and the waitstaff knows how to keep you laughing. While they are well known for their delicious “stone soup,” they can also make you a breakfast that will knock your socks off. Don’t forget to pop by the bakery on your way out—their strawberry cake is divine.
EAT: Quiche Lorraine; wheat toast with cranberry butter
DRINK: Hot tea
When looking for the ultimate classy brunch, the search ends at Local. Located in hip Overton Square, this gastropub serves up one of the best meals in the city. It’s a great place to regroup with friends after a week of hectic times while also enjoying classic breakfast items with a twist.
EAT: Crab cake eggs benedict; potato hash
DRINK: Bloody Mary (if 21!); hazelnut-infused coffee
5. The Rat
Car-less, penniless, or lazy? It’s OK: you can get a top-notch brunch without changing out of your pajamas. Build your own omelet, make up a new cereal blend, or customize a waffle all for the low price of included in your tuition.
EAT: Waffle topped with peanut butter, bananas, and honey; egg white omelet with spinach, tomatoes, and cheese
DRINK: Both types of Powerade mixed together
