We are so excited for Parent’s Weekend September 27-29. If you’re looking for ways to keep your family entertained for two days, look no further. We’ve got you covered:
1. Bid on artwork at the GlobeMed Silent Art Auction
On-campus organization GlobeMed is dedicated to solving issues of global health. They are hosting their annual Silent Art Auction, where students contribute their own artwork and photography, to raise money for their partner organization, AMOS in Nicaragua. Bidding takes place on Friday and Saturday, Barret Library breezeway.
2. Check out the local music scene
The Levitt Shell will be showcasing the talents of Shannon McNally (Friday) and Opus One with John Gary Williams and the Bo-Keys (Saturday), and, as always, both concerts are 100 percent free. If you’re looking for something a little more “out there,” try Goner Fest, a musical festival with more than 35 local bands playing throughout the weekend.
3. Take them out to eat
Brunch, BBQ, burgers, or ethnic, we have it all! Take your parents to get a grilled mushroom sandwich at Stone Soup, barbecue nachos at Central BBQ, a West Coast burger at Huey’s, or chicken korma at India Palace. All are great places to get some famous Memphis meals.
4. Dance along at Kappa Delta All-Sing
A annual tradition since 1948, Kappa Delta All-Sing raises money for Prevent Child Abuse America. This year’s theme is “Through the Decades.” Come see which fraternity, sorority, or student group put on the best skits, dance routines, and songs.
5. Catch the football game versus Berry College
Support our football team as they take on Berry College Saturday at 1 p.m. While you’re there, you can introduce them to our newly re-named mascot, Leroy. Roll lynx roll!
Don’t forget, the Rhodes app includes complete schedules for all events happening on campus for Parent/Family Weekend under Checklists.
