Publication Date: 8/21/2013

Erin Harmon Showing One of Her Works In Progress

Landscape paintings by Erin Harmon, associate professor of art and chair of the Rhodes Department of Art and Art History, will be on view Aug. 24-Nov. 11 at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art located near campus. Her work will be alongside artist Maysey Craddock in an exhibition titled “A Different Kind of Landscape” and curated by Marina Pacini.

A post on the museum’s blog says, “Maysey Craddock and Erin Harmon are part of the venerable tradition of landscape painting, although their works are anything but conventional. Despite their focus on their surroundings, neither one works directly from nature . . . Craddock’s and Harmon’s distinctive, evocative paintings demonstrate that even centuries old traditions can be updated and made contemporary.”

The blog also has short videos and photos of works in progress. View here.

Originally from California, Harmon received a B.A. in studio arts from San Diego State University. She has an M.F.A. in painting from Rhode Island School of Design.

There will be a free public lecture in conjunction with the show on Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. For museum ticket information, visit here.
