According to a White House press release, interns work in one of several White House departments including the Domestic Policy Council, the National Economic Council, the Office of Cabinet Affairs, the Office of Chief of Staff, the Office of Communications, the Office of Digital Strategy, the Office of the First Lady, the Office of Legislative Affairs, the Office of Management and Administration, the Office of Presidential Correspondence, the Office of Presidential Personnel, the Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs, the Office of Scheduling and Advance, the Office of the Vice President, the Office of the White House Counsel, and the Office of White House Fellows.
Fernandes has been assigned to the Office of the Vice President, working with the Advance office where she helps her supervisors coordinate the details before, during, and after trips and events of the Vice President.
“My time as an intern this summer at the White House has been the best experience of my life,” says Fernandes. “I have learned so much from the amazing, dedicated people I have been surrounded by who have inspired and taught me more than I could ever imagine. Almost every day when I walk into the White House complex, I can’t believe that I am actually going into work. It’s always an incredible feeling knowing that it’s all real. There is so much I am able to take away from this incredible experience, and I am so lucky and grateful every day to be given this unbelievable opportunity.”
A commerce and business major (international business track), Fernandes also is a Rhodes CODA fellow, where she does 10 hours of service every week to help put music and arts back in the Memphis community. In addition, she is on the Events Management Committee, the Rhodes Common Table, and is a Peer Assistance Leader and a member of Greek life.
