Jessica Brown ’14 Selected as NFCA Second Team All-American

Publication Date: 5/17/2013

Rhodes softball player Jessica Brown ’14 of Dalton, Ga. was announced a member of the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Second Team All-American squad on May 16. She is the softball program′s first member to be honored as an All-American.

Prior to the announcement, she also became only the third Lynx to be voted as a member of the First Team All-Atlantic Region Team, an impressive feat in itself.

To be eligible for an NFCA All-American award, respective players must have been selected to an NFCA All-Region First Team. A total of 120 student-athletes were eligible to be named an NFCA All-American, but only 15 made each of the three teams—First, Second and Third Team NFCA All-American.

“This award is a tribute to all of JB’s hard work,” said Coach Luke Wagner. “From the last pitch of the 2012 season, Jess set her sights on making herself and the team better, and she did just that. Jess is a captain and a leader of our team. She’s a shining example of what personal accountability and determination can yield.”

An environmental science major, Brown will return to Rhodes for her senior season in the fall.
