Publication Date: 3/14/2012

Rhodes College congratulates Dr. William Evans—Rhodes trustee and Vice Chairman of the board—on being awarded the highest recognition given in the profession of pharmacy.

Dr. Evans, CEO of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, is the recipient of the Remington Honor Medal awarded by the American Pharmacists Association for his groundbreaking research with anti-cancer agents and pharmacogenomics and his overall advancement of St. Jude.

Under Dr. Evans’ leadership, the Rhodes/St. Jude Summer Plus program was created. It provides Rhodes students unparalleled research opportunities in the laboratory of a St. Jude mentor. Not only do students work on independent research projects, but also they participate in lectures, group meetings, and onsite discussions, and present their work at local, national, and international venues.

Through Rhodes’ partnership with St. Jude, many students also serve as interns and volunteers.

For his support of Rhodes students, leadership at St. Jude, and dedication to the college, Dr. Evans received the Rhodes College Distinguished Service Medal in 2009.

Founded in 1848, Rhodes College is a private, coeducational college of liberal arts and sciences. It aspires to graduate students with a lifelong passion for learning, a compassion for others, and the ability to translate academic study and personal concern into effective leadership and action in their communities and the world.
